Greek Island Cruises

Think of all those magical names like Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos, and Santorini just to name a few.

Everywhere you go you will find magnificent beaches, whitewashed buildings that this part of the world is famous for, awe-inspiring antiquities, and remnants of ancient worlds. These countries also have a very low cost of living making local shops with more than reasonable prices a haven for shoppers.

What is considered to be the best time for Greek Island Cruises is May through November. They can be from 7 to 21 nights long although you can find some 3 and 4 night cruises from the smaller local cruise companies. Most of the major cruise lines with their big ships offer cruises in the Greek Islands and they often include other Mediterranean ports like Venice and Istanbul.

If you are considering Greek Island cruises with one of the larger cruise lines on one of their massive ships, you may want to take into account a few things. Some of the destinations on these cruises have small ports, which can mean long lines getting on and off. Often these huge ships do not dock in the actual destination. For instance if your port of call is Rhodes, the ship may actually dock 12 miles away in Marmaris because the docking fees are cheaper. There are some Greek cruise companies that offer cruises on smaller ships that accommodate from 500 to 1300 passengers than can avoid some of these issues.

Whatever way you plan to take your Greek Island cruise, here are some of the amazing ports of call you can experience:

· Santorini – This Island is one of the most famous in the world. It was formed from the eruption of a volcano in 1650 BC. This is what gives it its unusual half-moon shape. The top of the cliffs here provides some of the best view there are of the Greek Islands. While here you should not miss Oia, perhaps the most beautiful Village in Santorini.

· Corfu – This Island is dotted with vineyards and olive orchards and a shore excursion here can include a horse-drawn carriage tour of the Liston full of shops and open-air cafes.

· Mykonos – This Island is famous in Greek mythology. If you are a photography buff, your camera will love it here. Mykonos is also famous for its nightlife and beautiful beaches.

· Crete – Crete is the largest and one of the most famous of the Greek Islands and is in the Southern portion of the Aegean Sea. This island has a little bit of everything like mountains, beaches and rocky covers, quaint villages and harbors, great food, and a bustling nightlife.
