What Do Your Eyebrows Say About You?
By Derek L Lee
It might be an extraordinary question, but it makes you think - if my eyebrows could talk, what would they say. A lot of beauticians believe that they do talk and they say a lot. Think about it - when you speak your face contours to the expressions and your eyebrows move up and down, in and out and all around. While they might not verbally say anything, your eyebrows are saying much more about you then you think.
Eyebrows play an important part in how you appear to others and often set the tone for how approachable or unapproachable you are. Well shaped and tidy brows can give off the impression that you are gracious and warm; while, poorly shaped brows can give off a more negative impression, like you are angry or mean.
If you keep your eyebrows well manicured, you'll probably know how different your face looks when they are first done. Eyebrows quite literally frame the face and draw attention to the eyes so they should be well looked after. But unfortunately, they are usually the most neglected area on our face. While we are prepared to spend hundreds of dollars a year to keep our skin squeaky clean and well moisturised, we often balk at the idea of investing in good eyebrow care.
And no, that doesn't mean simply plucking your eyebrows. A lot of people don't realise that plucking your eyebrows is a lasting change. For some of us they grow back after a few months, but for most of us they don't. Plucking a hair from your brow may mean that you never get it back so if you ruin your natural arch, you could have a problem.
Instead of heading straight for the tweezers, you should adopt a good eyebrow care routine, which should include:
1. A professional eyebrow consultation with a beautician - this is extremely important if you have never given your eyebrows any attention before. A professional will be able to enhance the natural arch, clean up any strays and improve the overall shape of your eyebrows so that you can then maintain them yourself. Taking matters into your own hands straight away is not a great idea as mistakes can have a lasting effect.
2. Comb your eyebrows - while this sounds funny, it is great for taming any longer hairs you have in your brow. While you can purchase an eyebrow comb/brush, you can do just as good a job with a toothbrush.
3. Minimal plucking - the best time to pluck your eyebrows is just before bedtime so that the redness disappears overnight. Use a pair of slant edge tweezers and only ever remove stray hairs in between your eyebrows and below your eyebrows - NEVER above the eyebrows.
4. Fill them in - a lot of people have thin eyebrows that require a little bit of help to fill out. You can correct small problems with an eyebrow pencil, but for larger problems you may like to consider an eyebrow transplant. Yes that's right, you heard it - a hair transplant for your brows, which is extremely easy and affordable now.
5. Tame them - you can purchase eyebrow waxes and gels to keep your brow hairs in place, but a tiny spray of hairspray works just as well. Simply spray it on your finger tip and run it across your brow.
Voila - perfect eyebrows in 5 easy steps!
