A LETTER FROM CHOCOLATEORCHID

Hi Lovelies,

HAPPY FRIDAY! I hope that this week has been wonderful for you. Positive and productive in every way. I haven’t done a post like this in, it seems like, awhile. Matter of fact, I feel like I’ve been a bit stale with it and so I’ve decided to bring it back. I truly believe that people have to walk their own individual paths in life. My path may not look like yours or the other person’s, even if our destinations are the same or similar. I would not dare judge someone’s walk or base it on my own. As unique as each of us are, I feel that that would be totally absurd. But what I will do is celebrate you, right where you’re at. Every step whether it be small or large. Yes, even the setbacks knowing that they are simply experiences to be learned from.

I don’t believe in “boxing” people under expectations I have for myself or what I may, in my own finite understanding, deem as the right or proper way to go for your goal. Oh, hells no! What works for me may not work for you and vice versa. I’ve learned, however, to embrace & respect the beauty in our diversity and individuality. That’s just where I’m at.

Which is why I can only share my journey & things I’ve learned with you. And hopefully, that will motivate and/or inspire you to step out boldly on your own personal journey.

So by all means… do you and do you vibrantly!

"DO YOU" CHICK...Erykah Badu

Happy Friday Beautifuls!

One of my fave "Do You" Chick's is the one and only Erykah Badu. Aside from diggin' her music & it's vibe, I appreciate her for flaunting her natural hair in the face of a society that's not to keen on anything that ain't "straight" or mainstream acceptable. She helped (dare I say, sparked) the natural hair movement. On top of which she is truly talented musically, vocally and in acting. I'll never forget her performance in "The Cider House Rules". It's a must see! According to the site, www.erykah-badu.com, she is set to play a leading role opposite Mos Def in the indie film, "Bobby Zero". Congrats, Ms. Badu!! Do your thang!!

I just had to leave you with a video of one of my fave songs/performances by her. It's from her VH-1 Soul Stage concert. The song is "The Other Side of the Game".

Do You Chick!

Good Morning Beautifuls!

Another one of my favorite "Do You" chicks is Kelis Rogers, or simply "Kelis". A Harlem, NY native, Kelis is generally known as the queen of "alternative" R&B. To me, she's fearless. She does not compromise. She simply does herself and could care less what others may think. If you're curious, she was born to a musician and fashion designer which I'm sure played a part in her choice of career and fashion outlook.

I admire her boldness. And I love her gorgeous tattoo! It runs the length of the left side of her back and is an exquisite work of art. Because she's always changing her look you never quite know what to expect from her. She definitely believes in mixing it up! Though she's presently working a short straighter 'do (I'm still missing her big coily/curly hair!) I still have much respect for her.

Good Morning Lovelies!

Just had to drop a post on E-V-E, one of my favorite "Do You!" women. I call her a "Do You!" woman because that it was she does - herself. I respect and admire women who are bold and confident enough to be themselves. Especially in this society w/it's media pressures to blend in and/or try to look like someone outside of your genetic makeup. Go Eve! Do ya thang!
